Who is Horace Mann? During the mid-1800s, Horace Mann revolutionized education in America. As Secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education, he worked to replace squalid schoolhouses, provide satisfactory books, banish cruel and harsh punishment, and enrich study by adding music, hygiene and drawing. He also worked to establish special teacher training schools.
